Non-invasive tests that are beneficial in the assessment of peripheral vascular disease or circulation disorders. The use of various ultrasound and pressure recording techniques, the arteries and veins of the extremities can be studied. Additionally these exams can identify abnormalities in the carotid arteries of the neck and the abdominal aorta.
- Carotid Ultrasound
A safe, painless, non-invasive procedure that uses sound waves to examine the structure and function of the carotid arteries in the neck. You have two carotid (kuh-ROT-id) arteries, one on each side of the neck, which deliver oxygen rich blood from the heart to the brain. Carotid ultrasound can reveal whether an artery has any blockage and how well blood flows through the artery, blockages indicate an increased risk of stroke. Usually used for screening, results can be utilized to determine what kind of treatment you may need to lower your risk.
- Doppler Ultrasound
Measures your blood flow and blood pressure through your blood vessels by bouncing high-frequency sound waves (ultrasound) off red blood cells. Used to check for injuries to your arteries or to monitor certain treatments to your veins and arteries.
